If you’re looking for makeup products that actually show up on Black women, then this is the post for you!
As a Black woman in the beauty space it can be really difficult to find products that work well for me. This post is all about makeup Black women need in their makeup collection.

I can’t count how many times there was a new makeup launch, that everyone was excited to try, that didn’t have shades that would work for Black women. They’re either too light, too orange, or too grey.
It can be very difficult finding products that are formulated with enough pigment to actually show on Black women’s skin tones and has an undertone that is flattering.
Historically, Black women have not been a priority in the beauty industry and it’s really important to celebrate and support brands that have intentionally created products that are shade inclusive.
I have tested out various makeup products over the years and these are the makeup products I believe every Black woman needs in their collection.
After reading this post, you’ll know exactly which products work well on dark skin and which products you should pick up next!

Makeup Black Women Need
1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
If my skin tone could be a foundation, it would be the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in the shade Nutmeg.
I have never had a foundation that matches my skin tone so perfectly.
The shade range for this collection is very large, but my favorite part is the undertones. There are so many undertone choices for darker shades.
The undertones in a foundation are just as important as the actual shade and the undertones for darker shades are often done wrong, so it’s a really big deal that this foundation has such a large range.
I recommend this foundation to all Black women, but especially Black women with combination / oily skin and/or sensitive skin!
Foundation Highlights:
- Full Coverage
- Long-Wearing
- Oil- Free
- Matte Finish
Price: $48
2. Juvia’s Place Nubian II Eyeshadow Palette
Eyeshadow palettes for Black women can be very tricky. It’s really important to purchase eyeshadow palettes that are pigmented and have shades that work well on Dark Skin.
Juvia’s Place’s eyeshadows are very pigmented and extremely beautiful. The colors in the Nubian II Palette look amazing on Black women and should be a staple in every Black woman’s makeup collection.
Eyeshadow Palette Highlights:
- Formulated without Parabens and Sulfates
- High Pigment
- Long-Wear Color

3. MAC Cosmetics Blush in Love Joy
Love Joy is one of my favorite blushes. I’ve been wearing it for 7 years and it’s a blush that looks good with every makeup look.
I typically wear this blush on it’s own or as a topper over a liquid blush.
This blush is absolutely stunning because it has a beautiful rose gold shimmer blush that gives you a glow from within look.
Blush Highlights:
- Mineralize Blush
- Sheer Coverage + Buildable
- Pearlized Shimmer
- Works on All Skin Types
Price: $33
4. The Lip Bar LipLiners
I can not stress enough how important a good lip liner is for Black women. Brown lip liners make every lip color wearable for Black women.
I highly recommend always keeping a brown lip liner in your collection and I specifically recommend trying out the Lip Bar’s Lipliners.
Not only is The Lip Bar a Black owned makeup company, but their lip liner is so pigmented and very smooth. It is definitely one of the best lip liners on the market.
Lip Liner Highlights:
- Smudge Proof
- Highly Pigmented
- Vegan & Cruelty Free
- Hydrating
Price: $33
5. MAC Cosmetics Ruby Woo
Honestly this is the only red lipstick you actually need in your makeup collection. Ruby Woo is such a makeup collection staple because of how beautiful and well formulated it is.
Ruby Woo has a bit of blue pigment which makes it the best blend of warm and cool tones and makes it more universally flattering. It’s a lot easier to pull off a more neutral/cool red lipstick than a warm lipstick.
You can wear Ruby Woo for dinner, on a date, for a graduation, a day at the office, going to the mall. My point is that you can literally wear Ruby Woo anywhere and it’s the perfect red lipstick.
Lipstick Highlights:
- Matte
- Long-Wearing
- Non-Feathering
- Fade Proof
Price: $22
