There are so many makeup options available and it can be hard to know which products to invest in.
As a beauty enthusiast, I understand the struggle of finding the right makeup products that work for you.
I’m excited to share with you my top five essential makeup products that you need in your makeup bag. Even if you only have these five makeup products you’ll be able to create a beautiful and simple makeup routine.
Whether you’re a beginner or a makeup pro, these five products are must-haves. After reading this post you’ll know exactly which products you need in your makeup bag!
The first makeup product you need in your makeup bag is foundation. Foundation is the base of any makeup look. Finding the perfect one can make all the difference in creating a flawless, natural-looking finish. With so many formulas and finishes available, it can be difficult to choose the right foundation for you.
You have to determine your skin type so you can choose the right foundation formula. If you have oily skin, look for a mattifying / oil-free foundation that helps control shine. If you have dry skin, you should choose a hydrating foundation with a dewy finish.
Another thing to consider when choosing a foundation is the coverage you’re looking for. If you want a natural look, opt for a tinted moisturizer, a BB cream, or a sheer to low coverage foundation. For medium coverage, try a lightweight medium coverage foundation that evens out your skin tone without looking too heavy and covering too much. For a full coverage foundation, choose a buildable foundation that can cover any blemishes, dark spots, or redness.
If you’d prefer to purchase a drug store foundation one of my favorites is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation, which is perfect for those with oily skin. It provides a natural-looking matte finish and helps control oil and shine throughout the day. The formula is lightweight, easy to blend, and has a wide range of shades to choose from, making it really good choice for any skin tone. If you do have a darker skin tone, there is a more limited range in undertones for the shade range, so you might want to opt for a high end foundation.
I personally prefer higher end foundations over drugstore foundation because I like that you can shade match in store, you have more variety of undertones and shades, and I find that a lot of them look better on the skin.
One of my favorite high end foundation is the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation. If you’re on the hunt for a foundation that provides a smooth, poreless finish and keeps shine at bay, then you should definitely consider this foundation. It has a buildable coverage and a soft matte finish. It’s perfect for those with oily or combination skin. It comes in a range of 50 shades and if you’re someone who wants your makeup to stay in place all day, then you’ll love the long-lasting formula of this foundation.
Finding the right foundation for your skin type and preferences can be a game-changer in creating a flawless, natural-looking makeup look. Whether you prefer a matte or dewy finish, a sheer or full coverage, there’s a perfect foundation out there for you. So, take some time to explore different formulas and shades and find the one that works best for you!
The second makeup product you need in your makeup bag is blush. Blush is an essential step in any makeup routine. When you apply foundation it makes your face one color and naturally your face has many colors in it. Blush helps to bring more color back into your face and gives your makeup look more life!
When choosing a blush, consider your skin tone. For deeper skin tones, opt for bold, pigmented shades. My personal favorite blush is the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. This blush is formulated with a lightweight, blendable texture that feels comfortable on the skin and is highly pigmented.
It comes in a range of shades that cater to a variety of skin tones. One of the most impressive things about this blush is its long-lasting formula, which stays put for hours without fading or smudging and it has a unique doe-foot applicator that makes it easy to apply and blend the product seamlessly onto the skin.
Unfortunately, this blush is almost always sold out in stores, so you usually have to purchase it online!
A really good drugstore option is ELF Cosmetics Putty Blush. This blush has a unique putty-like texture that blends effortlessly onto the skin, providing a natural-looking flush that lasts for hours. It comes in a range of shades and can be applied with a brush, sponge, or fingers, depending on your preference. I prefer to apply it with a brush and finish blending it out with a beauty sponge.
The formula is also buildable, allowing you to customize the intensity of the color, and it has a satin finish that gives the skin a subtle glow. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free, so it’s perfect if you prefer to use products that are ethically sourced.
There are so many different shades of blushes and formula types. So, test out a bunch of them and figure out which one suits you the best!
The third makeup product you need is an eyebrow product. Eyebrows are an essential part of any makeup routine. They help frame the face and enhance your natural features. Achieving the perfect brow can be challenging so choosing the right eyebrow product for your shape, desired finish, and makeup skill is important.
When choosing an eyebrow product, consider your skill level and the type of look you’re trying to achieve. If you’re new to makeup, a simple pencil or gel might be the best option for you. These products are easy to use and provide a natural-looking finish. If you’re more experienced, you might want to try a pomade which can give you a more defined and precise look.
If you’re looking for an affordable yet high-quality eyebrow pencil, then the ELF Eyebrow Pencils are definitely worth considering. These pencils have a smooth, blendable formula that glides easily onto the skin, allowing you to create natural-looking brows. It also has a built-in spoolie brush that makes it easy to blend and groom your brows.
My personal favorite brow product is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade. It’s waterproof, smudge-proof and provides long-lasting wear. The creamy formula glides onto the skin smoothly, allowing you to sculpt and define your brows with precision. Plus, the formula is buildable, so you can customize the intensity of the color to suit your preferences. The pomade comes in a variety of shades that cater to a wide range of skin tones, so it’s easy to find the perfect match for your brows. The pomade can be used with a small angled brush to create hair-like strokes and with a spoolie brush to blend and groom.
It doesn’t matter which eyebrow product you choose, you just need one that works best for you!
The fourth makeup product you need in your makeup bag is mascara. Mascara is one of the most important steps in your makeup routine. Mascara is a makeup essential that can instantly transform your look and make your eyes pop. When choosing a mascara, it’s important to consider your desired effect – whether you’re going for length, volume, or both.
My favorite mascara is the Essence Lash Princess Mascara. It’s a a budget-friendly mascara that delivers amazing results and comes in a few different variations. I prefer their Curl and Volume and False Lash Effect Mascaras. This mascara is perfect for those who want to add length and volume to their lashes.
The unique brush features allow you to reach every lash and coat them evenly with the formula and is long lasting. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a new mascara and especially if you’re looking for one on a budget.
Another really great option is The Lip Bar’s Big Timer Volumizing Mascara. I love that The Lip Bar is a Black Owned Company and it’s available at Target making it extremely accessible. This mascara provides volume and definition without clumping or flaking. It also has nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil, which helps to strengthen and condition lashes. It’s perfect for people with sensitive eyes, since it is hypoallergenic.
Whether you like high end mascara’s like the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara or drugstore mascaras from Maybelline, the most important part is choosing a mascara that is going to give you your desired effect.
The last product you need in your makeup bag is lip product. The lip product that you choose is going to vary based on a number of different factors. It’s important to consider if you prefer a more matte look, a glossy look, a more sheer look, or a more pigmented look. All of these are going to determine which product is going to be a good fit for you.
If you love a pigmented matte lipstick, my favorite is Ruby Woo by Mac Cosmetics. It’s a gorgeous matte red lipstick that look flattering on almost everyone. Unlike a lot of other red lipsticks on the market it has a blue undertone which makes it a more neutral to cool undertone. A lot of other red lipsticks have an orange undertone which makes them more warm and harder to pull off.
If you prefer a more plain clear lip gloss, my favorite is the Sephora Brand clear lip gloss. I love that it’s high shine, but it’s still moisturizing and non sticky. My only issue with it is that it’s almost always sold out, but it’s very affordable and it lasts a really long time.
If you’re more a lip balm person, my favorite lip balm is the Summer Friday’s Lip Butter Balm. It smells sweet but it’s not overpowering and it’s very nourishing for my lips.
The lip product that you choose is very important in tying your look together!
