Easy Eyeshadow Tips for Beginners

1. Primer or Eyeshadow base

If you’re new to eyeshadow, it’s best to start with an eyeshadow base. Eyeshadow bases can either be concealer or an eyeshadow primer. My favorite eyeshadow base is the Urban Decay Primer Potion. This helps my eyeshadow last throughout the night and day and keeps it from creasing. Highly recommend this to everyone, but especially people with oily eyelids.

2. Apply a neutral color to your crease

Now it’s time to add some depth and definition to your crease. Choose a slightly darker shade than your base color, such as a taupe or medium brown. Using a tapered eyeshadow brush, apply this shade to your crease, starting at the outer corner of your eye and blending inward. This will create a subtle, natural-looking shadow that adds dimension to your eye.

It’s really important that this shade doesn’t have any glitter or shimmer to it.

3. Use a Glitter Shade on Your Lid

If you ever want to make it look like you spent a ton of time on your eyeshadow, but it really only took 5 minutes, put

Next up, choose a light shade that complements your skin tone. This can be a cream, beige, or light brown shade. Apply this shade all over your eyelid, up to your brow bone, using a flat eyeshadow brush. This will create a bright, open-eyed look.

4. Blend, Blend, Blend

The key to a flawless eyeshadow look is blending. Use a clean, fluffy eyeshadow brush to blend the shades together, making sure there are no harsh lines or uneven patches. This will create a seamless transition between colors. Easy, right?

5. Highlight Your Inner Corner

To make your eyes look brighter and more awake, apply a light, shimmery shade to the inner corner of your eye. This can be a champagne, gold, or light pink shade. Using a small eyeshadow brush, apply this shade to the inner corner of your eye, blending it slightly into the light shade on your eyelid.

6. Add Eyeliner and Mascara

To finish off your eyeshadow look, apply eyeliner and mascara. For a natural look, use a brown eyeliner pencil to line your upper lash line. For added definition, you can also line your lower lash line. Apply mascara to your upper and lower lashes, wiggling the wand from the base of your lashes to the tip. Boom, done!

7. Experiment with Color

Once you’ve mastered the basics of eyeshadow, it’s time to have some fun! Don’t be afraid to try out new shades and techniques. You can use the same techniques we’ve discussed, but with different colors. For example, you can create a smoky eye with shades of gray, or a bold look with shades of purple or green.

8. Invest in Quality Brushes

One of the keys to a great eyeshadow look is using the right brushes. Invest in a set of high-quality eyeshadow brushes, including a flat brush, a fluffy brush, a tapered brush, and a small brush for detailing. Using the right brushes will make it easier to apply and blend your eyeshadow.

9. Practice Makes Perfect

Remember, practice makes perfect. Don’t be discouraged if your first attempts at eyeshadow don’t turn out the way you want them to. Keep practicing, and soon you’ll be creating beautiful eyeshadow looks with ease. You got this!
