8 Makeup Products Every Girl Needs in Her Summer Makeup Bag
Raise your hand if you’ve been hanging out on a hot summer day and you start to feel your makeup sliding down your face from your sweat.
If you’ve never been that girl, congratulations you’re God’s favorite.
If you have, then you’re just like me. And when I tell you, it took me years to finally master the trick to summer makeup. But, lucky for you I’ll be sharing how I achieve gorgeous summer makeup with the 8 products every girl needs in her makeup bag.
These 8 products are a more simplified version of my summer glam routine. Stay tuned for that routine coming up later on in the summer. Use these products to achieve a glowing from within no makeup makeup look.

1. Primer
The first product on the list is primer of course. Primer (behind your skincare routine) is the base of all things makeup. You should choose a primer that works best with your skin combination. I have oily acne-prone skin and the primer that works best for me is the Time Check Lotion by M.A.C. I absolutely swear by this primer. I’ve used so many different primers in the past and this primer does the best at creating a barrier between my skin and the layers of makeup. I highly recommend it.
2. Setting Spray
The second product on the list is setting spray. I personally use setting spray when I start my makeup routine and when I end it. My favorite setting spray is the All Nighter Spray by Urban Decay. This spray literally keeps my makeup on and in place all day long. I absolutely need this product in the summer because it keeps my makeup from sliding as much and it helps melt all of my layers of makeup into one.
3. Eyebrow gel / glue
The third product on the list is eyebrow gel/ glue. Now for years I was an eyebrow pomade girl, but recently I have been going for a more natural look. One of the ways that I achieve this look is by switching to an eyebrow gel / glue. My favorite eyebrow gel is the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara. I use the eyebrow gel to deposit color into my brows and essentially fill in my eyebrows without the preciseness and work of an eyebrow pomade or pencil. The look achieved with an eyebrow gel is a lot less polished and more of a casual and natural makeup look. I usually just clean up the excess with a Q-Tip. I also use the NYX Brow Glue to keep my brows in place. (ProTip: Brush your eyebrow hairs in a diagonal motion)
4. Concealer
The fourth product on the list is concealer. Now, who would have thought that I, Maya from simplyxmaya, would be a concealer girl. If you would have asked 2016 Maya to only wear concealer with no foundation she would be mortified. Maya in 2022 is a lot older, more seasoned and I now swear by a concealer look. Hear me out, most of the time you only need to deposit coverage on specific parts of your face. Put the concealer on those parts of your face, blend them out, and move on with your life. Summer is way too hot to spend hours beating foundation into your face! Make sure to grab a concealer that matches your skin tone. Two amazing concealers for this, are the E.L.F. cosmetics 16hr Camo Concealer and the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer.
5. Transluscent powder
The fifth product on the list is translucent powder. In the summer you NEED translucent powder to set the concealer on your face. I like to place the powder on all of the spots that I have applied concealer and all of the areas that are prone to sweat, like my T-Zone and around my smile lines. My favorite translucent powder, that never gives me flashback, is the AOA Perfect Setting Powder in the shade Matte Translucent from Shop Miss A. It is literally a game changer.
6. mascara
The sixth product on the list is Mascara. I used to be an eyelash extensions or strip lashes kind of girl. And it’s not that I’m not anymore. But, it’s that I’ve really started to appreciate a more simplistic routine. I want to still look put together but I just don’t have the time or energy to put on a full face of makeup for an hour. Mascara is the easiest way I can still have full and beautiful lashes without the extra hassle. One of my favorite mascaras is the Essence Lash Princess Mascara. It is so affordable and so good!
7. highlighter
The seventh product on the list is highlighter. I absolutely love golden highlighters. This is the literal key to the glowing from within look. I use the NK cosmetics Highlighter in the shade Inca. This one is a bit difficult to find, so I’d recommend using my link below to purchase yours. It lasts such a long time and it’s extremely affordable. (ProTip: Apply and blend your highlighter with your fingers)
8. Clear lip gloss
The eighth and last product on the list is clear lip gloss. I am 100% a clear lip gloss kind of girl. Clear lip gloss just gives every look that extra oomph. I am allergic to many of the lip glosses in the beauty supply store, but if you aren’t I’d definitely check out the MAX lip gloss since those are not sticky. But, for my sensitive girlies, check out the Sephora Collection clear lip gloss in the shade Boss. It’s so pretty, buildable shine, and no stickiness.
