Planning out outfits during the winter can be so difficult. You have to balance being warm and fashionable and sometimes you end up being neither.

There have been so many times where I just put on the warmest coat I had and tried my best to make sure the color was matching with the rest of my outfit.

Cozy Winter Outfit Essentials

1. Sweaters

Sweaters are a major staple during the winter. I personally prefer to wear knit sweaters because they are very cozy and really cute!

I like to style sweaters with jeans and leggings during the winter and I usually layer my sweaters with scarves and winter coats on top!

2. Scarves

I love scarves, especially a long chunky scarf! Scarves warm my chest during the winter and if you pick a design that you really enjoy you can wear it as a major style piece.

I particularly love wearing nude, black, and white scarves because they’re really easy to style and layer.

3. Beanies

Beanies are such a cute winter accessory. I don’t wear beanies as much with my natural hair but I love how warm they are and stylish they are.

My first winter in Chicago I would always just throw on a cute beanie to hide that I didn’t do my hair (LOL) and I would be very warm and still look stylish!

4. Ear Muffs

Ear muffs are a new accessory to me and I have been loving them this year. I’ve seen so many people wearing ear muffs this year and they are so cute.

I absolutely hate being all bundled up and warm everywhere and then I walk outside and my ears start to sting! Ear muff are my fashionable solution.

5. Gloves

Gloves are a must during the winter. I used to think that gloves were just this cute little cozy accessory and while it is a cute cozy accessory, it is essential to my survival in the winter.

I legitimately will not go outside in the winter without gloves.

6. Boots

Boots were made for winter. I love a cute UGG boot during the early parts of winter and in warmer winter climates. During the coldest parts of winter I must have boots with tons of traction that I can wear in the snow.

Walking in the snow is no joke, so I need a pair of functional and cozy boots.

7. Winter Coats

A true winter coat was this super foreign concept to me before I moved to Chicago. I knew that I needed something heavy like a puffer, but it was one of those cute puffers not a real puffer that had how many degrees it keeps you warm in on the tag.

Since you’re going to wear your winter coat all of the time, I’m a huge believeer in purchasing coats that you really like and that are easy to style.

I chose to grab winter coats in Black, White/Cream, and Blue.

8. Thermals

Last but certainly not least, thermals. Thermals are the key to feeling cozy 100% of the time in winter. All of the other winter outfit essentials help aid you in being more cozy throughout the brutal winter, but thermals are what literally make you cozy.

Thermals ensure that everything you wearing is super soft and cozy because it’s the base layer. I highly recommend investing in a pair of thermals that are actually soft and cozy.
